Your account

Delete your account

You can do this yourself, in the app or on the web. This page explains what happens when you do, and how to ask us if you can’t sign in.

If you can sign in

Delete your account yourself, and it takes effect immediately — you don’t need to ask us or wait for a reply.

  • In the app: open your account settings from the menu, then choose to delete your account.
  • On the web: sign in at app.cordline.app, open your account settings, and choose to delete your account.

If you can’t sign in

Email support@cordline.app from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. We check that a request comes from the account holder before acting on it, which may mean asking you a question or two first — that check is what stops someone else deleting your account.

What deleting your account removes

Your sign-in is destroyed first, so the account can’t be used again. Then your personal details are erased: your name, your email address, your phone number, your profile photo, and the display name you chose. What remains carries no name and can’t be traced back to you.

What stays, and why

Cordline is a shared space, so some of what you wrote is part of someone else’s record too. Rather than tear holes in other people’s conversations, we keep that content and take you out of it.

  • Posts, comments, prayer requests and messages you sent stay where they are, with your name removed. A missionary keeps the conversation you had with them; it is simply no longer attributed to you.
  • If you ran a ministry on your own, the ministry and its posts are deleted along with your account.
  • If someone else helps manage that ministry, they keep it — the longest-standing co-manager takes it over, and it carries on without you.
  • A few records survive on purpose: if a ministry blocked you, that record is kept so the block still holds; if you contributed to Cordline, the record of the contribution is kept for as long as our accounts and tax obligations require; and if you were involved in a report about objectionable content, our record of what was reported and what we did about it is kept.

How long it takes

Deleting your account yourself happens straight away. A request by email takes as long as it takes us to confirm you’re the account holder, and we’ll tell you when it’s done. The anonymised record that remains isn’t deleted later — it no longer identifies you, and it’s what keeps other people’s conversations intact.

Before you go

You can download a copy of your data from your account settings first. Once the account is deleted we can’t recover it, and we can’t put your name back on anything.

Our Privacy Policy describes everything we hold and how long we keep it.
