What to put in a notice

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act asks for six things. A notice missing one of them may not be enough for us to act on, so it is worth checking before you send it.

  • Your signature, physical or electronic.
  • Which copyrighted work you say has been infringed.
  • What you are complaining about, and where it is, in enough detail for us to find it — a link is usually best.
  • Your address, telephone number, and email address.
  • A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and — under penalty of perjury — that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act for them.

What we do about it

We remove infringing content, and we end the accounts of people who infringe repeatedly. The same words appear in the copyright section of our Terms of Service, which is where this sits in the agreement between us.
